It happened.
After two years of us pounding the table, after the videos and the graphics and the rallying cry that started with a hashtag, Lilly is finally releasing the 12.5 mg and 15 mg vials of Zepbound. And that means every approved dose of Zepbound is now available in vial form through LillyDirect’s Self Pay Journey Program.
This is what we meant in 2024 when we said #releasethevials. This is what we meant when we said #releaseallthevials.
Starting July 7, healthcare providers can prescribe the two highest vials. Shipments will begin in early August. Patients paying out of pocket will be able to access any strength, including 2.5, 5, 7.5, 10, 12.5, and 15 mg, for $499 or less per month, through the self-pay program. The starter dose (2.5 mg) will remain $349.
And yes, for those tracking the real-world numbers, Lilly confirmed the 15 mg dose led to an average of 48 pounds lost, or about 21 percent body weight. One in three people on that dose lost more than 58 pounds.
Let that sink in.
If you’ve ever felt like the system was rigged to keep you big, to keep you sick, to keep you quiet, this is one of those moments that reminds us we can make noise, and it can work.
We still have a long way to go. We still need the savings card renewed. We still need to get gatekeeping PBM’s out of our system. We still need employers to stop dragging their feet. But today is a good day.
For the first time, every single dose of Zepbound is available in vial form at a predictable price. Not a coupon. Not a one-time rebate. A real option. A clear price.
And for once, they didn’t just give us the scraps. They gave us the strongest doses too.
Let’s not stop here. Let’s keep pushing. Let’s get these meds covered. Let’s get them in the hands of the people who need them. Let’s end the stigma. Let’s keep building.
Because this isn’t just about vials. It’s about victory.
This is the most exciting news. Thank you so much for your dedication getting us reliable news fast.
It’s a step in the right direction, but $499 a month indefinitely is still out of reach for too many folks that need this medication.
